Mashed Monsters

One weekend only! Mashed Monsters, with book and lyrics by Christina Akers and music by Shirley Mier, will be performed by People Sittin' Around Doin' Theatre at the end of October 2009.  The show runs Oct. 29 - Nov. 1 at the Heart of the Beast Theatre in Minneapolis.  Check Brown Paper Ticketsfor event details and tickets.

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Shirley Mier and Jennifer Kirkeby have teamed up this year to adapt the classic poem by Clement C. Moore for Stages Theatre in Hopkins, MN.  The show visits Clement and his family as Christmas nears, and traces Clement's experiences on Christmas Eve as he writes the poe, and the show ends with a setting of the poem itself.  This world premiere musical opens Nov. 20, 2009; visit Stages Theatrefor a complete list of show dates and tickets.

Madeline's Christmas

For those in the Twin Cities area, Madeline's Christmas will appear at the Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, WI, in December.  Performances are one weekend only, Dec. 10-13; visit Phipps Centerfor more information.

Forge Ahead!

Cottage Grove Middle School (formerly Junior High) commissioned this work from Shirley to commemorate and celebrate its new status as a middle school and its new focus on fostering a sense of community in education.  The Cottage Grove Middle School 8th Grade Band will premiere Forge Ahead! at the CGMS Band Festival concert at 7 p.m. on March 4, 2010.

Maiden Voyage

This intermediate-level band work is now scheduled to be published by Grand Mesa Music in summer 2010.

The Century College Theatre Department's spring musical is Cabaret, with Shirley directing the pit orchestra.  Cabaret runs April 16 - 25, 2010: April 16, 17, 23, 24 at 7:30 p.m., and April 18 and 25 at 2:00 p.m.  Stay tuned for more details!
