Forge Ahead!

Song of the Wind: An Aztec Legend

Song of the Wind is now published!!  This Grade 2.5 concert band piece tells the story of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl and his quest to bring music into the world.  See the Alfred Music website for details:

Maiden Voyage

This Grade 3 concert band work was published in 2010 by Grand Mesa Music Publishers.  Maiden Voyage was recently added to the Texas IUL Contest List, and this work has been selected by the Zumbrota-Mazeppa High School Symphonic Band for performance at the MMEA Midwinter Clinic on Feb. 16, 2012.

Harriet and Walt

Originally commissioned and performed by Stages Theatre in 2007, Harriet and Walt has been published by Baker's Plays (a division of Samuel French, Inc.).  This Kirkeby/Mier musical is based on the book of the same name by Nancy Carlson.  Read all about it at the Baker's Plays website here!

Twas the Night Before Christmas

The Kirkeby-Mier musical adaptation of the popular Christmas poem has just been accepted for publication at Dramatic Publishing!  In addition, the Phipps Center for the Arts will perform the musical in December, for one weekend only (Dec. 8-11, 2011).

Madeline's Christmas

Madeline's Christmas was Shirley Mier's and Jennifer Kirkeby's first collaboration, and it is still going strong, with productions all over the country in 2011 - including the well-renowned Dallas Children's Theatre.  Read the review of the opening night performance at DCT:

Llama, Llama, Red Pajama

Shirley Mier teams up once again with Jennifer Kirkeby for a musical adaptation of Llama, Llama, Red Pajama, based on the book by Anna Dewdney.  This musical will premiere at Stages TheatreJanuary 13, 2012.

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon

Shirley will be scoring incidental music for the adaptation of this book of Chinese folktales, beautifully rendered by Grace Lin.  The play will premiere at Stages TheatreApril 27, 2012.

Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance is the spring musical at Century College this year!  The show will run April 13-29, 2012, with Shirley directing the pit orchestra - stay tuned for more details!

Shirley will be playing piano and conducting the youth ensemble for Stages Theatre's production of Seussical in summer 2012, from June 29 - August 5.  See the full schedule at Stages Theatre.
